A broken sprinkler drenched part of the red carpet, but it didn’t dampen the fashion spirits at tonight’s Golden Globes, where color-blocking, unusual shapes and eye-popping shades were among the trends.

Most stunning: Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”) may be a movie newcomer, but her red Ralph Lauren gown evoked style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy. She looked so regal in her red cape dress that all she needed for accessories were tiny earrings and her timeless beauty.
Best block party: Taylor Swift rocked black and cherry red and Sandra Bullock boasted pink, black and baby blue. The actresses mixed and matched their Crayola colors and made the red carpet jealous.
Most in character: That plunging halter and those 1970s kitchen appliance hues (rust burgundy and tangerine?) made Amy Adams, in Valentino, look as if she borrowed her dress from the sexy siren she plays in “American Hustle.”
Most divisive: We’re guessing fashionistas will be arguing like red states and blue states over Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar de la Renta choice. Up close, it had delicate diamond-pattern beading that was amazing. But from a distance, the cropped top/ballerina skirt silhouette seemed more suited to a 5-year-old at a dance recital.
Best lace: Cate Blanchett’s black Armani gown was the epitome of feminine elegance.
Most confusing: We love everything about Jennifer Lawrence, except for that Golden Globes look. Her white Dior dress cinched by a black band at the waist and another below her hips may have been fashion-forward — or was it vintage, as in a loaner from a museum of odd 19th-Century petticoats?
Best red-carpet casual: Reese Witherspoon kept it simple, clingy and turquoise. It was beachy keen.
Best vintage look: The 77-year-old Robert Redford (“All Is Lost”) in a classic tuxedo. Enough said.
Best maternity chic: The lines of Kerry Washington’s gown celebrated her baby bump in a modern, yet tasteful way that Olivia Pope would totally approve of.
Most retro: Caitlin Fitzgerald of Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” saluted the era of her show with her short-sleeved blue gown by Emelia Wickstead. Too bad it was an unholy marriage of 1961 stewardess uniform and Pat Nixon’s White House wardrobe.
Best schoolteacher: Julia Roberts surprised in a Dolce & Gabbana number that combined a white shirt with a black column dress and a glittery rhinestone belt. She could give lessons in how to look like a smokin’ grown woman.
