Antioch fashion designer raises money for St. Jude's - Contra Costa Times

ANTIOCH -- With a love for fashion and desire to help a worthy cause, Angelica Bagain recently hosted her second annual fashion show in Antioch to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Bagain's goal is to continue to host this event annually as a way to give back to her community. This year she chose to donate the money raised from admission fees and T-shirt sales to the hospital's research program.

"The Runway To End Cancer," which was held Jan. 17 at the Anitoch Community center, raised $1,300 for the cause.

"I'm really hoping that we will get to raise another $500 before we send in the donation," Bagain said, noting she still has a number of T-shirts left to sell.

For the past two years, Bagain and a local committee of friends and volunteers have hosted the fashion show and entertainment night to help raise money.

"I really wanted to do something to help my community," the 25-year- old said. "I decided to do something with my fashion background because it is what I know."

Bagain said she chose St. Jude Children's Hospital this year because it is an organization that she has been donating to for a long time.

"Whenever I get a little extra money, I like to send them some," she said.

Last year she hosted that fashion show and donated the money raised to the East County Boys and Girls Club.

Bagain went to school to study fashion design and has a line of clothes that she sells online. During the fashion show models walked down the runway showing Bagain's clothing line, Amari, as well as other local designers, including Plush, Nova SF and Solid Clothing.

The evening also included entertainment from local singers and dance clubs, including Cheer Angels, Mau Loa Ohana Halau, The Jane Benitez Project, Mye and Kim, and Dustin Heer.

Bagain said she definitely plans on doing this project again next year, but has yet to pick which cause she will give back to.
