Fashion show previews prom season - Marshfield News-Herald

MARSHFIELD — Rainbows of tulle exploded from the wardrobe racks backstage at Circle the Date’s Rock the Pink Carpet prom fashion show Saturday afternoon at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center.

Meanwhile, teenage girls and mothers in the audience snapped pictures of different gowns using cellphones, hoping to find the perfect prom dress.

“In a lot of the other states, they are doing those slim dresses, but we in central Wisconsin love poufy. We love to be princesses,” said Jenny Kilty, owner of Circle the Date.

Kilty said she expects bright colors, neons and lace to be popular this prom season, and she wanted to give local girls a preview of what they could expect to see in stores.

“We came to see the different styles,” said Traci Adams of Stevens Point, who attended the fashion show with her daughter, Tabitha Adams.

“I want a blue dress, and I like when it’s sequined on top,” said Tabitha, who was hoping to see a dress that would meet her requirements.

She watched carefully as nine local high school girls paraded across the catwalk in dresses of every cut, color and length.

Circle the Date provided charts listing dress styles for audience members to take notes and mark their favorites. Guests were encouraged to have the charts on hand when they made appointments at Circle the Date so consultants could have the gowns ready.

For those who haven’t attended a prom in years, it might seem a bit early for wardrobe worries, but Kilty said prom dress shopping season started in December.

“Our Saturdays are busy, and at 3:30 p.m. (after school), girls come in with their friends and then bring back their moms,” she said. “We want to take care of them because we consider them our future business when it comes to bridal shopping.”

Girls planning to use money from after-school jobs to buy a prom dress also might want to shop early so they know how much to save. Kilty said a prom dress can cost between $180 and $630.

Outfitting male prom goers is a little easier. Boys usually select tuxedos about a month before prom, once they know what their dates are wearing, but some boys have come to Circle the Date for a tuxedo two days before prom, Kilty said.

The fashion show included tuxedo options to coordinate with the brightly-colored dresses on display.

Local vendors that provided the models with prom essentials like manicures, makeup, hairstyling services, spray tanning, jewelry, corsages and boutonnieres rounded out the fashion show by offering door prizes and information.
