Denver designers featured on "Under the Gunn" TV fashion competition - Denver Post

Denver designer Mondo Guerra and fashion mentor Tim Gunn got to know each other pretty well on the two seasons they spent on "Project Runway." It will be interesting to see how their relationship develops on their next TV project, Lifetime's "Under the Gunn" fashion competition starting Jan. 16. (It airs locally at 7 p.m. )

The show features three "Project Runway" alums — Anya Ayoung-Chee, Nick Verreos and Guerra — as they lead a team of aspiring designers through challenges that test their design ability as well as business skills. One mentor and one designer will remain at the end and earn a treasure chest of prizes, from $100,000 in cash to a Lexus CT.

Gunn, who previously had the job of affable mentor, is the host. Guest judges will include such fashion forces as designers Rachel Roy and Trina Turk and guest star judges like Heidi Klum, actor Neil Patrick Harris and the rapper Macklemore. ("Thrift Shop" challenge, anyone?)

Denver fashion fans will be watching the show to see not only Mondo, but Stephanie Ohnmacht, a local designer who has won awards in the Frock Out and Fashion Group International contests. She has also created patterns for McCall's/Vogue.

Mondo and Ohnmacht will be hosting watch parties for the show each Thursday night at Beauty Bar Denver, 608 E. 13th Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. with "martini and manicure" specials. There's no admission, but guests who make donations to Denver Colorado AIDS project will be entered into drawings for door prizes.
