In Store | Retro Nike Sneakers Aimed at the Fashion Set - New York Times (blog)

It goes without saying that New York’s fashion crowd is eagerly awaiting the opening of their very own Dover Street Market in New York City. But sneakerheads, too, have something to look forward to when the multibrand store opens in Kips Bay on Dec. 21. Nike, a longtime collaborator with Comme des Garçons and the original Dover Street Market, will introduce its newest take on one of its most popular styles, the Nike Air Python. First released in 1987, the now legendary basketball sneaker was the first of the brand’s shoes to hit stores sans the signature swoosh. The new Nike Air Python DSM NYC ($160) is part of an exclusive five-piece capsule collection that will also be available at the other two Dover Street Market locations in London and Tokyo. It includes a bomber jacket ($600) and fitted baseball cap ($40) in addition to the all-black sneakers, which feature python-printed leather and reflective tape detailing, an unconventional combination well suited for Dover Street Market’s avant-garde clientele. Two graphic T-shirts ($50 each) round out the collection, a nod to the Air Python’s roots in ’80s street culture. Nike Air Python DSM, $160, doverstreetmarket.com.
