These fashion-tech startups are getting big help from the big guys - New York Business Journal

As February's Fashion Week (seen here) illustrated, major brands are thriving in New York. Eight small fashion-technology startups have been selected to join an incubator funded by some of them.

Eight small startups at the intersection of fashion and technology have been chosen as the first class of the New York Fashion Tech Lab, a new incubator program funded by major fashion brands and the Partnership Fund for New York City.

The participating companies are:

  • Clothes Horse, software that helps online shoppers verify the fit of clothes before they buy.

  •
Nineteenth Amendment, a crowdfunding portfolio site and product lifecycle management tool for designers.

  • Perch Interactive, Inc., a web design and software developer that aims to improve interactive displays of clothing online. Perch is a spinoff of Potion, a Tribeca design firm.

  • Stylinity, a website that facilitates "social shopping." "Think of it as an automated photo booth that sits outside the dressing room in a retail store," CEO Tadd Spering says.

  • Stylit, a service that combines real stylists and machine-learning technology to personalize online shopping.

  • StyleSage, a company that uses data analytics to advise fashion companies on business strategy.

  • Suddenlee, a platform that offers online shoppers unlimited, free, next-day delivery from brands.

  • Trendalytics, a software that measures consumer response to fashion trends using search and social media measurements.

"The start-up community is teaming with innovators and technologists eager to address the pain points of fashion and retail companies as they transition to the social and mobile communities of their customers," said Kay Koplovitz, a board member of Kate Spade & Co., one of the founding members companies. "This is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to iterate their products and services with the companies they expect to serve. The opportunity to unite them is priceless.”

Ben Fischer covers local and regional business in greater New York City.
