Police issued a missing persons alert for a fashion designer last spotted at a Manhattan nightclub.
[UPDATE / 2:25 p.m.] An NYPD spokeswoman said that the body of a male in his late 50s was found in the Hudson River between Pier 57 and Pier 59 roughly 30 minutes ago. The spokeswoman declined to identify the body pending proper family notification The NYPD has confirmed that the body is Michele Savoia's.
According to the NYPD, Michele Savoia, 55, was last seen at 3:54 a.m. on Thursday, February 13. He had been leaving Marquee, a club on 10th Avenue. Savoia, who once had a store, House of Savoia, in the Lower East Side, has designed suits for the likes of Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke and Chris Noth.
His friends are worried, with best friend Felix Rodriguez telling WCBS 2, "I fear the worst, I fear the worst." The news station reported, "The 55-year-old Chelsea resident was featured on CBS 2 just last month in a story about high-end pawn shops. Savoia explained how he used his motorcycle as collateral so he could buy a boat, which he now lives in."
After Savoia missed Valentine's Day with his girlfriend, Rodriguez went to Savoia's boat to look for him. Rodriguez said cops were there too: "They searched the Hudson River and the port and they found nothing—thank god—but that doesn’t mean undercurrents didn’t play a part." (Police don't suspect foul play yet.)
Savoia, who was working on an upcoming reality show, is described at 6' and 165 pounds. He has earrings in both ears and many tattoos, including one saying "House of Savoia" on his chest. Here's a photograph he recently put on Facebook:
