Fall 2014 Fashion Trend: A Fresh Take on Shearling, Straight From New York ... - Glamour (blog)

New York City is in the midst of one of the worst winters I can remember, and all I want is something super warm and soft to keep me toasty. Coming off of New York Fashion Week (having spent the last eight days trudging through the snow in single-digit temperatures), I’ve been on the hunt to find the warmest layers that still look pulled-together.

As a child I grew up trying on my parents’ shearling coats and not wanting to take them off. But as much as I loved them, they definitely screamed 1980s. Though there are definitely times where I’m looking for exactly that, I’m currently salivating over the more polished silhouettes from last week’s runway shows.

Coach-07

For the most traditional shearling, look to this one from Coach. With color-block accents, an awesome leather clutch, and shearling booties, this look is anything but ordinary.

Elizabeth-James-06

This season Elizabeth & James showed a two-tone jacket, a trend that has been emerging for next fall (post to come in the following weeks on that; it’s amazing!). While the sleeves remain traditionally suede on the outside, the body of the jacket (shearling lining) has been turned inside out.

Reed-15

For full-on teddy-bear shearling, look no further than Reed Krakoff’s fall 2014 collection. This shearling bomber can be thrown over everything from the most casual boyfriend jeans to a more dressed-up skirt.

Let us know your thoughts on the trend. Would you ever wear a shearling coat? Or do you stay warm but still dressed up in a different way?
