Authorities have identified the remains of the wife of Italian fashion heir Vittorio Missoni along with those of the pilot and co-pilot of a plane that crashed in the Caribbean, an official said Friday.

On January 4, then aircraft carrying the scion, his wife Maurizia Castiglioni, another Italian couple and two crew members vanished off the Venezuelan coast.

Almost six months later, the small plane was discovered some 80 meters (240 feet) underwater, north of the Caribbean archipelago of Los Roques. Divers recovered the remains late last month.

“Three of the six victims have been formally identified,” Attorney General Luisa Ortega said in a statement.

She added that some of the remains — likely belonging to Missoni and the other two passengers — have yet to be analyzed.

Operations to salvage the wreckage, recover all remains and determine what caused the accident were expected to start mid-November.

Vittorio Missoni — the son of the eponymous fashion label’s founder Ottavio Missoni — was the fashion house’s marketing director.

The elder Missoni, a knitwear innovator whose distinctive colorful zigzag designs became a global fashion empire, died aged 92 on May 9 in his home and company headquarters in the northern Italian town of Sumirago.
