Before the long legs and lingerie were on display at Wednesday night's taping of the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion show, the Rutgers University drum line took the stage at the nationally-televised event.
The group of 15 students were a part of the opening segment of the coveted show, alongside Fall Out Boy and provided the beat for the group's track, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark."
The drum line dressed in military style attire for the show's "British Invasion" themed opening, while Taylor Swift — the headline performer — wore a top hat and mini dress.
"Those performers and the models get such a bad rap, but they were so gracious about seeing the kids," says Timothy Smith, the director of athletic bands for the university. "That was one of the most overwhelming things to see — how well-received they were by the models and entertainers."
The drum line landed the gig in August, through a contact of Smith's, who produced the show, he says. As part of their contract, the group was not allowed to discuss their casting until the show taped. The students — 14 males and one female — spent several months preparing for the event.
Among the models to walk in the show, dubbed "the sexiest night on television," were official Angels (contracted brand ambassadors): Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adam Levine's fiance Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge and Lindsay Ellingson. Other themes of the night included: Birds of Paradise, Shipwrecked, Pink Network, Parisian Nights and Snow Angels.
Other fun facts: there were 28 pairs of wings, 67 different outfits and 40 models in the show.
The 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will air on CBS Dec. 10 at 10 p.m.
