ARTfeast combines fashion, food and art - ABQ Journal

Art, food and fashion come together in perfect harmony during the annual ARTfeast weekend in February.

A project of the nonprofit organization ARTsmart, ARTfeast is a major fundraiser that generates much needed cash for Santa Fe public school art programs.

Featuring four main events, ARTfeast celebrates the talents of professional artists and budding young artists in Santa Fe as well as the culinary skills of local chefs.

The first event of the weekend is the Edible Art Tour. This self-guided tour of downtown and Canyon Road galleries takes place from 5-8 p.m. Friday and includes special art exhibits and delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by area restaurants. Guests roam from gallery to gallery, feasting their eyes on the art and savoring specially prepared dishes.

Immediately following the Edible Art Tour is Fashion Feast, which merges last year’s Fashion Show with the Feast and Famine event.

“Interest in appealing to a younger crowd is behind the creation of Fashion Feast,” says ARTsmart’s executive director Lisa Vakharia. “We’re featuring up to four different designers, including Denver designer Mondo Guerra, who appeared on season 8 of ‘Project Runway.’ We’re very excited that he is bringing his clothing line. We’ll have professional models for the fashion show.”

A free shuttle service takes guests from galleries along the Edible Art Tour to Fashion Feast’s location. After the one-hour fashion show, DJ Rose from the Beauty Bar in Denver starts spinning music. There’s a cash bar and plenty of scrumptious appetizers for hungry dancers until the dancing ends at midnight.

ARTfeast’s Gourmet Dinner & Auction at Eldorado Hotel and Spa on Feb. 22 celebrates the work of Santa Fe painter Phyllis Kapp, who is ARTfeast’s 2014 Honorary Artist. As the honorary artist, Kapp mentored Santa Fe High School students by working with them on specific art projects.

The Artists Brunch & Auction on Feb. 23 at the Inn and Spa at Loretto is a chance for guests to mingle with artists and gallery owners over a gourmet lunch. Beforehand, guests gather at SITE Santa Fe for pastries and drinks.

Fashion Feast, the Gourmet Dinner & Auction and the Artists Brunch & Auction include live and silent auctions featuring artwork, ceramic plates designed by Santa Fe public school children and food and travel experiences.

Paintings and sculpture are also part of Saturday and Sunday’s Art of Home Tour, a self-guided tour through a small group of homes on the marketplace, represented by Santa Fe Properties.
