New York Fashion Week Morning Report: Last Day - New York Times (blog)

It takes more than a little snow to stop three of the biggest names in American fashion: Ralph, Calvin, Marc. Or so they all hope. That theory will be tested today when New York Fashion Week’s final day is met, at least according to current predictions, with several inches of snow.

The shows must go on! And so they will, beginning with Ralph Lauren’s in the morning (10 a.m., for those of you following along at home). The company has been waxing internationally of late — in October, it announced plans to support the restoration of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris — but its roots are in New York. So is its runway.

After a quick stop at J. Mendel at the Lincoln Center tents, it’s off to Calvin Klein Collection at 2 p.m. The show isn’t likely to have as much fanfare as last season’s, which celebrated the creative director Francisco Costa’s 10th year at the label, but it will have the very New York satisfaction of knowing it was right on the money regarding real estate. Last season, Calvin Klein held its show at Spring Studios on Varick Street, the only label to do so. This season, Spring has emerged as one of NYFW’s key venues, hosting shows by Altuzarra, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Theory and Opening Ceremony, in addition to its returning champion.

Then, at 8 p.m., is the grand finale: Marc Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs used to split his time between New York, home of the Marc Jacobs brand, and Paris, where he served as artistic director of Louis Vuitton. But his October show there was his last, and he’s returned to New York to focus his energies and attention on his own line. Odds are good that he’ll set out to wow — and for a man who season after season erects sets worthy of the Met and collections often as wild as any outfits in Dr. Seuss (see, for example, the famous fur-hat collection from Fall ’12), that’ll be something to see.

That, and airline updates. Those editors continuing the fashion world tour abroad at London Fashion Week, beginning Friday, may be anxiously checking their devices for the latest on the snow’s effect on flights.
