Tell us about yourself. • I was raised in St. Louis and attended private school for the majority of my childhood. I always said that years of wearing the same uniform made me curious about the freedoms of clothing and personal style. I was a devoted competitive dancer and spent my younger years dancing at Renee Johnson’s Dance Studio.

Talk to us about your educational background? • I attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and earned my degree in fashion design and product development in 2013. I interned for several notable designers, boutiques, stylists and photographers in St. Louis and New York City. At Stephens College, I received awards from industry professionals, including the Spirit of Fashion Award, Top Scoring Swimwear Award, Top Scoring Activewear Award, and Top Scoring Weekend Wear Award and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. Fashion Group International of St. Louis awarded me the Apparel Design Student of 2012. My final year was spent creating a capstone collection of garments with the design students, as well as creating a capstone business plan with students receiving their degree in marketing and management. Thus, Jacqueline Nicole was born.

Talk to us about your newest collection. • My first ready-to-wear collection will be in stores and online next spring. However, I make one-of-a-kind garments for private clients. Look books are available on my website. The collection is a combination of dresses and ensembles. You’ll find everything from miniskirts and tops for evening wear, to sweet day dresses, some updated pencil skirts for the office and charity ball gowns.

What inspired you? • I was inspired by the movie “Roman Holiday.” I had a lot of fun in designing the collection, and I’m excited to bring it to life. It is mostly dresses, however there is a pants set, some skirts and a gown.

Do you admire a certain fashion designer? • I admire many fashion designers. You have to have great examples to look up to. Right now, I’m going through the MET’s Charles James Exhibit Book, which has the most amazing gowns. I love to read about the life and process of other designers, so I am never stuck on one name too often.

How long you been sewing? • I have been sewing and creating for about seven years.

Talk to us about your shows. • I am excited to say that I am one of Phoenix Fashion Week’s 14 emerging designers of 2014. This will be my first major show in October. I’m super honored to be a part of such a large and supportive organization. In St. Louis, I will be competing in Brainchild Events Pins and Needles Emerging Designer Show (formerly Project: Design) on Aug. 2.

Do you have a favorite piece from your collection? • My favorite piece to wear from the Fall 2014 collection is the Indira dress in black. The modest length allows you to wear it with a blazer to work or ditch the blazer to reveal mesh cutouts for date night.

What are your prices? • They range from $150 for tops up to $2,000 for gowns.

What sizes do you offer? • My pieces come in extra small to extra large, or 0 to 12, depending on the style. I am working on expanding every piece to the 0 to 12 scale.
