Local designer Jazmin Jackson's hope of having her fashions featured in a major magazine may soon become a reality.

Ms. Jackson, 27, of Wilkinsburg is a finalist in the Elle x Byco contest, which will give one designer the chance to have a sketch produced, sold and spotlighted in the January 2014 issue of Elle.

The contest started with more than 250 entries, which Elle editors narrowed down to 25. Readers voted for the final five, which includes Ms. Jackson's blue-and-white patterned Carolina kaleidoscope fit and flare dress. Elle editors will select the winner.

Glitter & Grit bridal boutique grand opening: Open since June at 5300 Butler St., Lawrenceville, the boutique will celebrate its inaugural months at 5 p.m. Friday with a DJ, photo booth, food, drinks and more. Guests also will have a chance to win a handmade bridal gown, as well as door prizes sponsored by other local businesses.

They The pair collaborated on a video called "The Dog Walk," which shows rescue dogs with pieces from the Ralph Lauren fall accessories collection. Nordstrom offers taste of France at "pop-in" shops, online: For a limited time, select Nordstrom locations and www.nordstrom.com will carry French-inspired fashions and goods, curated by the retailer's director of creative projects Olivia Kim.

Hermes to roll out luxury bike line: The French label, known for its silk patterned scarves and luxe handbags and apparel, will produce a bicycle line "Le Flaneur," which means strolling around in French. The eight-speed bikes will be available next month in various colors and sizes for more than $10,000.
