RiverTown Crossings' newest retailer Windsor known for prom dresses, fashion ... - Mlive Kalamazoo

GRANDVILLE, MI — RiverTown Crossings has one more shopping draw for teen girls and young women.

Fashion retailer Windsor is now open on the Grandville mall's upper level near Macy’s and Vanity.

The Los Angeles area retailer sells women and junior apparel including prom and special occasion dresses in more than 36 stores across 10 states, and well as online.

Founded in 1937 by brothers Maurice and Albert Zekaria, the company remains family-owned. The royal sounding moniker was inspired by a postcard of Windsor Castle in England.

Windsor is a good fit for the mall, which already houses chic fashion retailers Love Culture, Delia's, Vanity and Rue21, said Amanda Gielczyk, the mall's marketing manager.

“We’re thrilled to be adding Windsor to RiverTown Crossings’ already great retailer lineup," said Gielczyk. "Windsor offers our female shoppers a great place to find trendy merchandise at affordable prices.”

Windsor, which began as a single dress shop on Los Angeles' Miracle Mile, built a reputation as a prom season destination, according to an LA Times story.

"Though the chain does no advertising, stores become so crowded at prom time that girls call ahead to reserve dressing rooms," reported Denise Gellene in the 2000 story.

Windsor keeps a fairly low profile, making it difficult to find stories about the West Coast-retailer online. A company spokeswoman didn't return calls seeking comment.
