Designs from the 2014 spring collections at New York Fashion Week are already being worn by Amy Adams, Rooney Mara and Carey Mulligan and others.

It's barely six weeks since the spring 2014 collections came down the runway at New York Fashion Week, and they're already starting to turn up on the red carpet.
The fashion was all over the place at the Oct. 12 New York Film Festival closing night gala screening of "Her." The movie's Rooney Mara was the first one out of the gate in spring Proenza Schouler, wearing a black chrome silk cloque dress with a pleated skirt that was both futuristic and feminine. Costar Olivia Wilde channeled Katharine Hepburn in a pair of sand-colored palazzo pants and a white blouse from Michael Kors' spring collection. The white shirt trend is going to be big, and this was a strong start, even if it was a questionable look for a gala event. It's also a mystery why Wilde didn't wear a belt with the pants, as shown on the runway. Amy Adams went in a totally different direction, debuting a naughty-but-nice spring Prabal Gurung dress in lavender with a super-sexy décolletage and side cutouts.
Carey Mulligan also opted for bold color at the Oct. 15 premiere of "Inside Llewyn Davis," in which she costars, during the 57th BFI London Film Festival. The red carpet was no match for her Dior sculpted matte silk and wool strapless dress in an electric shade of yellow. Mulligan ruled.
And speaking of fashion fearlessness, many actresses shy from prints on the red carpet, perhaps worrying that they will confuse the cameras. But not Lupita Nyong'o, who stepped out at the L.A. premiere of "12 Years a Slave" in a spring '14 Miu Miu dress with a whimsical Deco bird print. The newbie, who is already garnering Oscar buzz for her performance in the film, looked like a star ready to take flight.
