Rankin The trash-talking Australian MC Iggy Azalea knows that her modelesque, fashion-forward appearance is at odds with her persona. “It’s just easier to be aggressive than to play nice,” she said with a laugh. The 23-year-old, who dropped out of high school and moved from the small town of Mallumbimby, New South Wales, to Miami when she was 16, broke out in 2011 with a pair of explicit videos that caught the attention of the rapper T.I., now her mentor, who appears on Azalea’s new EP, “Change Your Life” (out Oct. 8 from Island Def Jam). A remix of the title track by DJ Shift Key has its premiere here. Azalea says she’s still getting used to the experience of being remixed. “It’s like changing a hair color,” she said. “It’s nice, but it takes some getting used to.”
Azalea, who is planning a full-length album in 2014, made her first foray into the fashion world in a big way last month, wearing a variety of bold outfits to shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris. The rapper, born Amethyst Amelia Kelly, said she’s always been into fashion despite growing up without much money and making some questionable choices along the way. “I went through a phase when I was about 18 where I always dressed like I was in a polo match,” she said. She added that she’s overcome any worry about being judged for her sartorial choices. “Now I don’t care so much,” she said. “I like the story clothes can tell.”
