WHITEHOUSE STATION — On a beautiful fall day in late September, over 150 guests attended a runway fashion show and luncheon fundraiser, entitled "Project Anderson House." The 2nd annual event was held at the Gladstone Tavern, in Gladstone, N.J. The fundraiser was held to raise money to support local women building new lives at the Anderson House, located in the Whitehouse Station section of Hunterdon County. According to Jan Holmstrup, Executive Director at Anderson House, the benefit raised nearly $30,000.

The event honored two special guests, Tami Erwin, President of National Operations for Verizon Communications Consumer and Mass Business Markets; and, Donna Degnan, Owner/Designer of Donna Degnan. Erwin is a passionate speaker on the topics of leadership and professional development, domestic violence awareness and prevention and the empowerment of women and other minorities in business. Donna, a Jersey girl born in Jersey City, is a renowned fashion designer with her own signature collection.

Barbara Davis, owner of The Red Toad, Gladstone designed a New York style runway show that highlighted the best of fall and winter 2013 clothing, shoes, boots and other fashion accessories. The show included a wide range of fashions from The Red Toad, including new and classic designs by Donna Degnan, whom is recognized for her classic silhouettes with a modern and contemporary edge.

Guests were thrilled to view the wide variety of clothing and accessories on display. The event showcased a full range of fall and winter clothing and accessories, including sweaters, tank tops, leggings, dresses, jackets, jeans, suits, vests, skirts, blazers, ponchos and coats. Accessories were tastefully coordinated with the clothing outfits and included: scarves, boots, casual and dress shoes, handbags and clutches, belts, necklaces and earrings.

Barbara Davis indicated that "the all volunteer committee along with her staff of two people, worked tirelessly over the past months to provide a professional fashion show. All of the models in the show were local women with no professional modeling experience who dedicated their time and commitment to making the Project Anderson House Fashion Show a success. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Donna Degnan and Karalyn Gallagher, the Creative Director for Project Anderson House."

Another keynote speaker was Christina Michaels, a graduate of Anderson House, currently working in the substance abuse treatment field and an advocate for recovery and treatment. Christina told the audience that she "learned many invaluable lessons and gained the life tools I desperately needed. Even after nine years, I use the tools Anderson House gave me on a daily basis. Since graduating from Anderson House, I've earned a BA in Psychology; an MS in 2012 and married my former fiancé in 2010."

According to Jan Holmstrup, the special guests of honor, Christina Michaels, Barbara Davis, Karalyn Gallagher, the project committee members and the volunteer models, all represent "exceptional women in that they share a common thread that combines hard work, determination, passion and generosity of spirit. They are wonderful role models that prove that all things are possible when you lead from your heart." From the overwhelming response by participants at the fashion show, it was apparent that Jan falls into the same category. She is also recognized as a leader in women causes and is an exceptional role model for women in both their personal lives and in business.

Anderson House is a residential treatment program for women recovering from alcoholism, drug addiction, and their co-occurring disorders. Dedicated to providing quality treatment, Anderson House supports women as they develop the necessary goals and life skills to become responsible, productive, and sober individuals. According to Jan, "Anderson House's vision is to broaden and enhance our programs and facilities so that we can accommodate and treat more women in recovery with the excellence that they so deserve." Anderson House is a non-profit organization supported by corporations, foundations, individuals and community volunteers.
