Gallery Night brings art, fashion to Third Ward - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The quarterly Gallery Night & Day for fall kicks off Friday, as art galleries and shops around the city open their doors to the art-curious.

For example, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, 273 E. Erie St., draws attention to "The Brooks@20: Twenty Years of Design at the Brooks Stevens Gallery of Industrial Design." The Portrait Society Gallery, 207 E. Buffalo St., features three new exhibits focusing on the head and shoulders.

The Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Drive, is featuring "Thomas Sully: Painted Performance" with works from an American Old Master.

As part of the arts event, the city will also celebrate Fashion Night Milwaukee . Stops include Third Coast Style, 514 N. Water St., which will showcase clothing and accessories from Milwaukee designers. Elsewhere in the Third Ward, keep an eye open for masterpieces of high fashion, hair and makeup by aspiring graduates of the Institute of Beauty and Wellness.

Also look for pop-up shops from businesses such as Faye's boutique, which is set up for the weekend at 231 E. Buffalo St., and the J. Hilburn pop-up at Cranston, 250 N. Water St.
