From Aubrey Hepburn's little black dress in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to Alicia Silverstone's preppy-chic knee-high socks and plaid miniskirts in "Clueless," fashion has long had a memorable place in film.

Now the Big Apple is welcoming its first film festival devoted to the role fashion has had on the big screen - DailyCandy's Fashion in Film, which kicks off this week at Tribeca Cinemas.

"The fashion world has always had the courage to try something different," said director Matt Lenski, who will premiere a short film at the festival on Thursday.

"But fashion takes itself very seriously, and there's definitely a lighter side to it. There's a lot of humor to be found," he said.

That's what Lenski - who won an MTV Music Video Award in 2005 for his direction of Fall Out Boy's "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" - is trying to find with his 5-minute film, "Ivy Holland," a mockumentary about a style blogger who's obsessed with fashion and how she's perceived by others.

"Ultimately, she ends up living through selfies she takes - and while we may laugh at that, a lot of people, myself included, have a little bit of that bug," the 33-year-old New Yorker said. "(The desire) to have that flawless digital profile for people to admire."

Also showing at Fashion in Film, which DailyCandy launched in partnership with Tribeca Enterprises, is an untitled documentary by Christina Voros about photographer Tommy Ton, known for his style blog Jak & Jil. Voros released another fashion documentary earlier this year, "The Director," about the history of Gucci, which she directed and co-produced with James Franco.

The two-day festival opens Thursday with free showings of Lenski and Voros' films. Friday will feature live panels with fashion icon Iris Apfel and Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin.
