Fashion designer charged with sexual assault - Chicago Tribune

A high-end custom clothes maker whose clients have included celebrities has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman who lives in his Gold Coast apartment building.

Elhadji Gueye, 49, whose HAJ Designs has made clothes for Mike Tyson and comedian Bernie Mac, is accused of raping a 29-year-old woman who had invited him over for dinner, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the woman invited Gueye and his two daughters to her studio apartment for dinner on Aug. 27, but Gueye, who is married, arrived alone. He ate dinner while she cleaned her kitchen, then pushed her onto a couch and sexually assaulted her as she screamed, Assistant State's Attorney Bridget O'Brien said. Afterward, O'Brien said, he made a plate of food and took it back to his apartment.

The woman went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital the next day and gave a statement to police, O'Brien said. Gueye turned himself in to Chicago police on Tuesday. His attorney, Earl Grinbarg, said in bond court that his client was being "extort(ed)" by "a lady who thought she found the golden goose."

"This young lady set him up," Grinbarg said. "My client is a fool for these acts of consensual sex, but he is not a rapist."

Gueye, who appeared in court in a striped sports jacket and tan pants, was ordered held on $100,000 bail by Judge Laura Sullivan, who also ordered that Gueye, a Senegal native, turn over his passport.

Grinbarg said Gueye's fashion design company employs 10 people.
