The Algonquin's Cat Fashion Show Is This Weekend, And You Can Go! - Gothamist
This Saturday night the Algonquin Hotel will once again be taken over by fashionable cats for resident hotel cat Matilda's big annual fundraiser. This is Veronica Corningstone reporting live from New York City...
This year Matilda and her furiends will host a Salute to Broadway, a new theme for their event, which will benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. The Broadway-themed cat fashion show isn't all that's in store, however—you'll also be treated to a reception and raffle. That's right, YOU can be a part of this, for a requested donation of $40 (more information can be found here).
There will also be appearances from Tara the Hero Cat, who was captured on video saving her young human friend from a dog attack, and Vito Vincent, the formerly homeless feline star of Broadway’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s .
Get there between 3 and 7 p.m. for kitten adoptions!

Gan, Dean split could lead to demise of 'Fashion Book' - Page Six
As top fashion glossies get ready to drop their September issues, speculation is swirling about the future of the publishing mini-empire built by longtime collaborators Stephen Gan and Cecilia Dean after Page Six reported the duo’s splitting.
One casualty of their portfolio, which includes V magazine, VMan and Visionaire, could be former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld’s 2-year-old CR Fashion Book, insiders say.
Edgy Roitfeld launched the title in 2012 after leaving French Vogue, but former employer Condé Nast then put a fashion fatwa on her new venture, warning top photographers and stylists from working with a new competitor.
Roitfeld’s fancy friends, including photographer Bruce Weber, still worked with the well-connected editor anyway, shooting cover models including Kate Upton and Gigi Hadid. But insiders say that Condé’s “stranglehold” on top shooters has made it hard to compete, and the magazine has also had trouble attracting the paying advertisers it hoped for.
“Carine can’t understand why none of her friends are buying ads,” a source sniffed.
The insider added of CR’s future: “The plan is not to announce it is closing, but to do a ‘soft close.’ The whole staff knows what’s going on and are looking for other jobs.”
But Gan has insisted to us that CR has been “profitable since day one.”
It’s still unclear how Gan and Dean will split their assets: Sources said Dean’s focusing on arty title Visionaire, while Gan’s presiding over V and VMan. And other sources say CR Fashion Book will survive and that V will go all-digital to boost the bottom line.
In 2012, Roitfeld was also named global fashion director of Vogue rival Harper’s Bazaar, where Gan is creative director. For its September issue, the pair produced a portfolio with Penélope Cruz, Brooke Shields, Iman, Joan Smalls, Linda Evangelista and Lady Gaga. “It’s a huge amount of power they gave to me,” Roitfeld told WWD of the project.
Reps didn’t get back to us.

HP's Gilt-Exclusive Smartwatch Puts Fashion FIrst - TechCrunch
What would it take to get people actually buying smartwatches in droves? Could FASHION be the answer? A new odd trio aims to find out, with HP teaming up with fashion flash sales site Gilt and designer Michael Bastian (via Fashionista) to create a smartwatch that looks smart, too, if you’ll permit me to use some slightly archaic language for the sake of a pun.
The tech behind the new HP/Michael Bastian smart wrist computer isn’t Android Wear, but rather something custom-built for this project that syncs with a companion app on either iOS or Android and pushes email and text notices from the user’s smartphone to their watch. It’ll also offer music control, as well as weather, sports and stock price updates.
Overall, it sounds like a slightly dumbed down Pebble, or perhaps a more intelligent Martian Notifier, but with a heavy emphasis on the good looks of a more traditional (and timeless) timepiece. It isn’t yet clear what kind of screen this thing will have, but it will sport a 44mm circular watchface with straps available in brown leather, a green nylon and black rubber for a range of different customization options.
Cross-platform compatibility gives HP‘s effort a leg-up on Android Wear alternatives, but overall it sounds like this will be mostly retread of what we’ve already seen in terms of smartwatch capabilities and feature set, repackaged in a case that isn’t embarrassing to have seen on your wrist. Will that be enough to get it past the early adopter hump in terms of finding an audience? We’ll have to wait until this fall when it ships to find out.

Made in St. Louis: Fashion designer receives national attention - STLtoday.com
JACQUELINE MADEY
Age • 23
Home • Wildwood
Family • Single
What she makes • Jacqueline is the owner and designer of Jacqueline Nicole, a contemporary clothing company. To reach her, email Info@JacquelineNicole.us. To view her items, visit jacquelinenicole.us.
Tell us about yourself. • I was raised in St. Louis and attended private school for the majority of my childhood. I always said that years of wearing the same uniform made me curious about the freedoms of clothing and personal style. I was a devoted competitive dancer and spent my younger years dancing at Renee Johnson’s Dance Studio.
Talk to us about your educational background? • I attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and earned my degree in fashion design and product development in 2013. I interned for several notable designers, boutiques, stylists and photographers in St. Louis and New York City. At Stephens College, I received awards from industry professionals, including the Spirit of Fashion Award, Top Scoring Swimwear Award, Top Scoring Activewear Award, and Top Scoring Weekend Wear Award and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. Fashion Group International of St. Louis awarded me the Apparel Design Student of 2012. My final year was spent creating a capstone collection of garments with the design students, as well as creating a capstone business plan with students receiving their degree in marketing and management. Thus, Jacqueline Nicole was born.
Talk to us about your newest collection. • My first ready-to-wear collection will be in stores and online next spring. However, I make one-of-a-kind garments for private clients. Look books are available on my website. The collection is a combination of dresses and ensembles. You’ll find everything from miniskirts and tops for evening wear, to sweet day dresses, some updated pencil skirts for the office and charity ball gowns.
What inspired you? • I was inspired by the movie “Roman Holiday.” I had a lot of fun in designing the collection, and I’m excited to bring it to life. It is mostly dresses, however there is a pants set, some skirts and a gown.
Do you admire a certain fashion designer? • I admire many fashion designers. You have to have great examples to look up to. Right now, I’m going through the MET’s Charles James Exhibit Book, which has the most amazing gowns. I love to read about the life and process of other designers, so I am never stuck on one name too often.
How long you been sewing? • I have been sewing and creating for about seven years.
Talk to us about your shows. • I am excited to say that I am one of Phoenix Fashion Week’s 14 emerging designers of 2014. This will be my first major show in October. I’m super honored to be a part of such a large and supportive organization. In St. Louis, I will be competing in Brainchild Events Pins and Needles Emerging Designer Show (formerly Project: Design) on Aug. 2.
Do you have a favorite piece from your collection? • My favorite piece to wear from the Fall 2014 collection is the Indira dress in black. The modest length allows you to wear it with a blazer to work or ditch the blazer to reveal mesh cutouts for date night.
What are your prices? • They range from $150 for tops up to $2,000 for gowns.
What sizes do you offer? • My pieces come in extra small to extra large, or 0 to 12, depending on the style. I am working on expanding every piece to the 0 to 12 scale.
