Just like last year, we've tapped a handful of reputable fashion friends to weigh in on 2014's greatest hits (and misses). First up: we asked everyone what trends they loved, what trends they never want to see again, and which they adamantly resisted.
Some of the best (and worst) trends: Overalls, pajama-inspired, fashion sweats, jumpsuits, normcore. Photos: Driely S. for Racked
Erica Cerulo, Of A Kind: Loved fashion sweatshirts, fashion sweatpants, fashion sweat-dresses—really just any excuse to wear sweats and not feel like a scrub. Also, I'm thrilled that turtlenecks are having a moment. God, do I love a good turtleneck.
Kim LoCicero, Veda: I am embarrassed to admit, I tried to resist overalls. But, I was wrong and I admit it.
Olivia Wolfe, American Two Shot: Trends in general are a yawn, no matter what. There are things we love, like crop tops, that go in an out of fashion, but are pretty much a staple in our closets—trends be damned!
Jessica Allen, Allen Media Consulting: I loved that vintage non-stretch, straight-leg jeans are coming back. It's nice to see some classics that are smart and sexy, and they look fresh again after way too many years of skinny jeans. I don't hate much, but I can't get my head around "normcore."
Phillip Salem, Owen: Loved the jumpsuit trend and still do. I think jumpsuits are definitely here to stay if they are worn and styled right. My favorite jumpsuit probably was the Olcay Gulsen tuxedo deep V jumpsuit I carried at Owen. I am so over the gaucho trend, though. It brings back bad nostalgic memories of 7th grade when I would see girls—and yes, guys—wear them in stretchy sweatpant material. Not a cute look.
Kay Lee, Otte: I loved the shearling trend this fall! It was everywhere, from jackets to bags to boots; it's a really cool look. I personally hated the graphic trend, and when it comes to fabrications, neoprene is never flattering.
Jill Lindsey, Jill Lindsey: The trend that I disagreed with for 2014 was pajama-inspired apparel. Use your effort in your appearance, and to not look like you just rolled out of bed with out putting thought into what you look like. I tried to resist the normcore trend, but I am a nerd and sometimes you just need to put on some New Balances and a hoodie with some awesome shades and make it a look.
