YouSpeak: Fall Fashion - BU Today

With the official end of daylight saving time next Sunday (don’t forget to set clocks back an hour) come shorter days, and shorter days mean colder temperatures. T-shirts, shorts, and sandals are being replaced with sweaters, vests, and boots. (Gloves and scarves to follow shortly.)

This fall, fringe and faux fur are big. Ditto bomber jackets.

What prized item have you added to your fall wardrobe? What’s the one thing you’d love to buy if you could? Where do you shop for clothes and accessories? What’s your preferred style? Classic? Grunge?

This week’s special edition of “YouSpeak” put all of those questions and more to a number of students.

Boston University, BU, campus fashion, college campus fashion, college fashion trends, what college students are wearing, what are college students wearing

Isabelle Epskamp (COM’16) What I’m wearing:
I’m wearing a black jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters and boots from ShoeMint. This green jacket from the Gap is one of my main pieces this fall. It goes with everything.

My style:
Really simple, classic, and clean-cut. My favorite colors are black, white, and blue, or stripes. I keep what I’m wearing pretty minimal so I can make more of a statement with my shoes.

Where I shop:
I usually shop at Zara, AllSaints, rag & bone, Urban Outfitters, Free People.

Article of clothing I’d like this fall:
A good vest I can dress up or down, depending on what I’m wearing.

Fashion philosophy:
You should always dress in what you feel the most comfortable in. You’ll feel good about what you’re wearing.

Tianna Gallinaro (SMG’17, COM’17) What I’m wearing:
My sweater is from Anthropologie, the skirt from J.Crew. The shoes, by Jack Rogers, I bought at a sample sale in NYC.

My style:
Classic with a twist, and definitely a preppy undertone.

Where I shop:
J.Crew, Brooks Brothers, Kate Spade, and Kiel James Patrick. I also love to go thrifting.

Article of clothing I’d like this fall:
Navy-colored riding boots.

Fashion philosophy:
Coco Chanel put it best: ‘Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

Michael Montesi (SMG’16) What I’m wearing:
Matte Ray-Ban sunglasses, J.Crew crew neck, All Saints trousers, a faux fur collar knit cardigan from Zara, and Cole Haan shoes.

My style:
I usually follow the three Cs: classic, comfy, and casual. The classic elements tend to form the basis for all my outfits. I always want to be comfortable in the clothes I’m wearing. I always try to be casual, because that gives me the opportunity to make an outfit more formal by adding a blazer and tie.

Where I shop:
If I see something I like in a window, I’ll walk in and get it. The stores that I visit most are J.Crew, AllSaints, Zara, and Cole Haan.

Article of clothing I’d like this fall:
I’ve had my eye on this black Abson denim jacket from AllSaints.

Fashion philosophy:
Only buy things that match two other items you already own. It’ll save you a lot of money.

Roshni Shukla (COM’17, SHA’17) What I’m wearing:
A plain black long-sleeve top from Express, and patterned pants and sandals from Bombay. I topped the outfit off with a necklace I got at a market in Jaipur. My friend brought me this beautiful shawl from Dubai and my purse was made in Kinshasa.

My style:
Influenced by culture. Ethnic, classy, and put-together.

Where I shop:
Usually I go for H&M, Zara, Aldo, Express, Primark, Topshop, or even River Island. But one of the perks of being an international student is that I get to shop everywhere. I love shopping at boutiques, because that’s where you find that one unique classy dress, silk blouse, or piece of jewelry.

Article of clothing I’d like this fall:
A navy blue fall coat.

Fashion philosophy:
Wear what makes you feel good.
