Spring fashion tips from Forest Park shop owners - River Forest Leaves

After a long, cold winter, the thought of tank tops and shorts seems like a dream. Fortunately, it’s finally March! Whether you’re dreaming of spring walks in town or heading south for spring break, it’s time to get ready for the occasion!

Colors and Prints

Heidi Vance, co-owner of Team Blonde in Forest Park, sees pastel colors being hugely popular color this spring with bright, bold colors also making a statement.

“Lilac seems to be a common trend,” she said. “We’re also seeing a lot of cobalt blue.”

Jamie McClellen from Deedee & Edee in Forest Park agrees with the bright color trend.

“Coral seems to be a strong [color] along with turquoises, aqua, and fuchsia,” McClellen said. “Any blues that we’re getting are really beautiful.”

Tops and Bottoms

Both McClellen and Vance agree that bigger pants this season are better. McClellen is selling palazzo pants, and knows they will be a huge trend.

“They started coming in last year, and it’s going to continue this spring,” McClellen said. The popular floral print works well on a pair of palazzo pants, and also on dresses and tops.

Vance is also selling a lot of wide leg pants for spring along with dressy pants, jeans, and trousers. She also anticipates a lot of T-length skirts worn for spring festivities.

Shoes and Sandals

Where have our toes been hiding all winter? With spring break upon us, it’s time to let them out! McClellen said that our shoes will match our outfits — happy and bright.

“We’re getting in a lot of bright colors,” she said. “Gladiator style is still popular.”

Sandals this season are woven, embroidered and often have a floral pattern. As for a higher heel, there will be a lot of wedges, platforms, and two tone colored shoes.

For those who are into a more athletic look, consider flat, casual, almost sporty sandals.

Accessories, Accessories, Accessories!

Get ready to ditch the shoulder strap purse this season.

“All of the larger [purses] are something you would carry on your arm and not on your shoulder,” she said.

McClellen said that roomy tote bags will be in vogue this spring break. These purses will have a smaller purse inside of a larger one.

As for other accessories, Vance said that geometric prints are very trendy when it comes to bags, purses and accessories. And of course, lilacs and purples will be popular for both purses and other accessories.
