Macy's of Visalia VP Store Manager Pam Georgeson agrees leggings are a hit this fall, for younger kids to those heading off to college. Velvet leggings are the newest spin-off of the style, she said. And the comfortable bottoms are fun to pair with a midi (a skirt that hits the calf) or crop top.
Crop tops are also a trending item for young adult females, she said, and can easily be worn with high-waisted bottoms or soft pants, which are making their own debut this fall.
Never heard of soft pants? They're loose-fitting and flowy-fabric pants that are often gathered at the bottom.
And let's not forget the guys. Guys of all ages are wearing graphic tees that have the same expressive messages.
Both retailers also see sneakers continuing to dominate male footwear this school year. It's all about the slip-on sneaker, which is easy to wear, Georgeson said. And Benavides said the casual footwear is becoming formal, with local guys pairing them with slacks.
