This week's couple: Fashion victims - New York Post

When it comes to dating, we all strive to dress the part, but both Myrna, 44, and Antonio, 38, felt the other could have looked a little sharper.

She thought he was dressed too casually, while he wished she’d worn something a bit sexier.

Still, they had a nice time talking with one another when they met for dinner and drinks at the new Upper West Side Indian restaurant Savoury. B

ut did they have enough in common — besides their poor sartorial choices — to give each other another chance to dress for their best? Read on.

Myrna was 15 minutes late, which is understandable, but I was anxious while waiting. When she arrived, I thought she was classy, but she was dressed almost too casually, like she was meeting a friend instead of a guy she wanted to impress.

We had a lot in common. We’re both Puerto Rican and grew up in The Bronx. We also both have had back issues with our sciatic nerves. I appreciated that she understood my condition, but she didn’t seem to be interested in other things I talked about, like the tutoring I do.

We had a good time, and I loved Savoury. It was my first time trying Indian food, and the homestyle chicken curry was very tasty. But as for Myrna, there was no spark for me, and I get the feeling there wasn’t one for her either.

When I arrived, I was taken to the table where Antonio was waiting. We hugged when we were introduced, but I was disa-ppointed because I know I made some effort to look really good, and he was dressed a bit too casual for a date.

Things got better when we started talking. We bonded over our back issues. As serious as they can be, we laughed over the stories we shared about living with our ailments. It was a refreshing first date topic.

Savoury was really nice. The staff was attentive and accommodating. To eat, I had the crab cakes for appetizer and the lamb dish for an entree; both were delicious.

Antonio was a gentleman and walked me to the train, but I got the sense he wasn’t into me, which is fine. I went into this because I wan-ted to challenge myself to do some-thing different, and I’m happy I did.
