Latest fashion trick is getting a makeup-free look - New York Daily News

From the runways of Fashion Week to the set of the “Today” show last week, the trend in makeup is no makeup.

The good news? There’s a makeup for that!

Getting the “natural” look you crave — like Jennifer Lawrence’s seeming un-done-up face in her new Dior ads — is more than just waking up and tossing water in your face.

But how much makeup do you need to look natural or, as Beyoncé says in her latest catchphrase, “I woke up like this”? We turned to the experts:

Ace the base

The point of foundation is to disguise rough edges, like under-eye circles or discoloration. To find what’s best for you, first dab two or three colors on your cheek, then “let it sit for about one minute on the skin to see if it oxidizes,” says MAC Cosmetics Director of Artistry Gregory Arlt. “When the edges dry, look to see which shade disappears into the skin.”

Add color

Just because someone isn’t wearing any makeup doesn’t mean her face is completely devoid of color.

“We all have a natural blush,” says Romy Soleimani, Beauty.com beauty director at large. “Enhancing that a little is the best way to apply color while keeping it natural.”

Soleimani recommends cream blush, which tends to blend more naturally into the skin.

Janell Geason, the artistic director for makeup at Aveda Global, recommends pinching your cheeks to find the right shade. No, really.

Then, says Geason, apply it “in circular motions in the apples of the cheeks up toward the temples.”

Get the glow

Whether it’s a bronzer or a tinted lip moisturizer, don’t forget to stay hydrated.

“Moisturizer is a staple of a natural beauty look,” says Soleimani. “Keep your skin hydrated with a lotion or serum and it will glow all day.”
